River to Oblivion

from NetWorks 9: Somnia vana by Shawn Bell

/

about

River to Oblivion consists of four interacting voices or output streams. Each voice was generated using 8 nodes: four for the basic note attributes (pitch, loudness, duration, and entry delay) and four others that control various parameters of physical modelling synthesizers in realtime.

The voices in NetWorks always "listen" to one another, even when not playing, and respond to past and current events, resulting in expressive, contextual performances.

Although the interaction between the nodes in NetWorks are deterministic, the output can sound both improvisational and structured, depending on the rules followed.

"The enemy of art is the absence of limitations." -Orson Welles
