NetWorks is based on the simple intuition that connectivity and interaction between parts is what makes all natural systems whole and behave and evolve the way they do. The NetWorks system is designed to allow for an exploration of all possible types of network connectivity and rules of interaction between the elements of sound.

All the music in NetWorks 9: Somnia vana was generated with an expanded NetWorks algorithm which allows for an arbitrary number of network node-types that can be mapped onto any aspect of sound synthesis.

In Somina vana, 8 node-types were used: four for the basic note attributes (pitch, loudness, duration, and entry delay) and four others that control various parameters of physical modelling synthesizers which affect their timbral characteristics as well as other sonic attributes such as the placement and movement in binaural space.

Each voice “listens” to its own performance and the performances of the other voices and interacts such that, for example, the depth of vibrato performed by one voice will have an influence on the duration of a note performed by another.

Headphone listening is recommended.
